Welkom+ strengthens newcomer orientation across Flanders
Newcomers settling in a municipality are often confronted with similar practical questions regarding language learning, mobility, housing and administrative procedures. With Welkom+, the Flemish Agency for Integration and Civic Integration, in cooperation with the cities of Lier and Mechelen, introduces a digital tool that enhances both Flemish and local reception policies.
By centralising essential information in an accessible app format, Welkom+ contributes to greater clarity and coherence in the way newcomers access public services. The inclusion of translation features and tools related to Dutch language learning further supports accessibility for those who are still building their language skills.
An important added value of the platform lies in the possibility for local authorities to customise their city section. By integrating local branding, communication and initiatives, municipalities can create a recognisable and coherent contact point for new residents. This strengthens both their public profile and the quality of their service delivery, while offering front-line staff a reliable and up-to-date reference tool.
Developed in cooperation with local and Flemish partners, the platform reflects a coordinated governance approach across different policy levels.
Within this evolving framework, Expat Centre Limburg, embedded in POM Limburg and aligned with other provincial international houses , remains available as a complementary point of contact for international newcomers and their families. From our regional development perspective, we continue to support initiatives that contribute to integration, labour market participation and the overall attractiveness of Limburg as a welcoming region.
Welkom+ is available via the App Store and Google Play.
