Matière(s) Première(s) is captivating, compelling, powerful, poetic, and above all, essential: from pure helpless rage to prayers for ancestors, from broken identities to refusal to submit: six dancers unite to embody their emotions.

Their dance, sometimes subtle, sometimes explosive, unveils timeless beauty and underlying connection. Urban African dances such as coupé-décalé from Ivory Coast, ndombolo from Congo, or mbolé from Cameroon resonate today with young people across the globe.

Matière(s) Première(s) is an important and significant performance by Anne Nguyen, the ‘grand dame’ of urban Afro dance.
