Mental health meetup: dealing with rejection in the job search

Dealing with rejection in the job search without losing your confidence

Rejection is one of the most challenging aspects of the job search process. When it happens repeatedly — or when applications are met with silence — it can gradually erode your confidence, motivation and sense of self-trust. In this 90-minute meetup, we will explore the emotional impact of job rejection, particularly for internationals, migrants and those who have been unemployed for a longer period. Through practical psychological tools, guided reflection and accessible emotional regulation techniques, you will learn how to process rejection without internalising it, separate your self-worth from outcomes, and continue your job search with resilience and confidence.

Who is this meetup for?

This meetup is open to anyone currently navigating the job search process, with particular attention to internationals and migrants who may encounter additional challenges in the local labour market. We aim to make the session responsive to your needs. When registering, feel free to share any specific questions or topics you would like to see addressed.

Organisational information

This meetup is organised by our colleagues at International House Leuven (IHL). Members of our community and Limburg-based internationals are warmly welcome to participate.

In 2025, IHL conducted a survey to better understand the wellbeing of internationals in Leuven and the surrounding region. One of the key findings was the need for increased mental health support.

In response, IHL launched the Mental Health Meetups series. Each month, a different mental health topic is explored, guided by experienced mental health professionals. The meetups vary in format — informational, conversational or interactive — and offer a safe space where participants can engage actively or simply listen.
